Your Website Should Be Easy to Edit

Default Page

Default Page
The default template is the most common page type. It allows you to specify a title, some text, add an image, and lists all child pages as links at the bottom. Use this one if you are in doubt about which template to use.

Name
The name field becomes the text in bold at the top of the page (a heading). It also acts as the link text to this page from other pages such as its parent. The page title, up to 18 characters, is also used in the path (file name) to this page. This helps with search engines, and makes it easier for visitors to navigate your site.

The name field must be text only. It cannot take HTML so be careful if you are using advanced features.

Description
The Description isn't actually displayed on a page directly. It's used to help visitors know what to expect of this page when they see a link to it. For example, if the homepage on your site uses the Default Template, then it will list links to all of the pages just below it (child pages) with each Image, Page Title and Decription.

You may want to use a short snippet of the text on the page as its description, or perhaps a bit of text that tempts people to click to view the whole page.

Text
The text field is where you type in the content of the page. Type here and click save.

You can use HTML in the text field to use different fonts and other formatting tags. Be careful, though, as the default template automatically replaces carriage returns with <br> tags. This means that you might need to put all of the html on one line otherwise the page will have lots of extra spaces.

Child Pages
You may have heard the terms Parent Pages and Child Page. Think of a website as a geneology tree. Every person is listed below his or her parents and has his or her child below.

A website can be described using a similar structure. The home page is the oldest relative. Each child page is listed below. Each child page may have children of its own below them.

The Default Template automatically lists links to all of its Child Pages after the page text. Many other templates differ only in how they handle Child Pages. For example, the Simple Page doesn't display links to Child Pages. The Gallery Template displays them in a grid.

Image Handling
Images can be uploaded once you save the page. They can be GIF or JPG and can be resized and moved once they are on the site.

Note: Be careful what size file you try to upload though. Although images are scaled before they are displayed, large files will slow down the server or might be too large to upload at all. (This depends entirely on your internet connection speed. Regardless, try to limit images to 600 pixels wide or less before uploading.)
