February 17th 2010 - Windsor CT - Windsor's Robotics Team, Paragon 571, is working overtime to deliver robots and a website for this week's deadlines.
It takes a wide range of skills to make an operation like this work. This year's challenge is to build a robot that is both remote-controlled and autonomous.

They'll compete in a futuristic basketball/soccer game with obstacles and other teammates. Just understanding the game is a challenge. Building a robot for the competition requires a big team and a full sized shop.

"I would have loved to be a part of this organization as a kid. Today, I love to see the energy and dedication they put into their projects."
- John Waiveris, Invisible Gold, LLC.

There are subgroups for mechanical, electrical, software, graphics, pit design, not to mention food, spirit, marketing, and administration. Everyone has a place so it appeals to a wide range of students with opportunities that are rare in a traditional classroom.

"I got to be a mentor in the website group. It's exciting to see a team pull together and get into a groove. The best part is that they built this website themselves." - John Waiveris, Invisible Gold, LLC.

And it's not just about building robots; this is run like a business. It can be expensive to run a full sized shop and to take trips to regional competitions. There is community outreach, fundraisers, sponsorships, and marketing.
