Technical Support Questions and Answers
"John is truly knowledgeable. He's credible, exceptionally helpful and genuinely a "good guy". He's done much more for us than we had any reason to expect. We have been more than pleased with the site John designed for us. He has addressed our every question, no matter how "dumb", with a grace and good humor no longer common."

I have the product installed...and now how to I create an Invisible Gold powered website?| Author | | admin
9/22/2005 4:20:52 PM | A: Cool! Well, here's what you need to do. I am sure there is an article buried somewhere on my website. (should be in a docs folder in the future.) Regardless, there are 6 steps to make a new websitework:
1) You need the product installed 2) You need to create an empty website pointing to a folder with theempty "blank" website files. It is located in the /program files/invisiblegold/ver28/emptysite folder. 3) You need to create a 404 handler that points to the URL /default.asp or /virtualdir/default.asp 4) You need to give the webuser modify rights to the /DATA directory 5) You need to edit the settings.asp file to have the domain and a valid license key for the domain. I make my money by selling unlock codes for each domain...though feel free to use a demo license and we'll replace it once you know what version you want, etc.
NOTE: Invisible Gold has a Wizard that does all of this stuff automatically. It's not perfect so there is an occasional glitch (mostly on 2000 server, 2003 is much better). Besides, I wanted you to know what it does behind the scenes.
NOTE2: Upgrades are done by basically replacing the /system/currentversion directory in any site with the one found in the latest installed IG version empty site. The Wizard also handles this automatically. It renames the old currentversion folder with the version# - For example 2.8, and then copies the new one in. Reload IIS and voila, the site is upgraded.
NOTE3: The "design" or look for a site is controlled by creating newframeworks in the /Frameworks directory. These can be set in the interface. Custom templates (functionality like discussion lists, etc.) can be added in the /Templates directory. 80% of the sites I've made don't use any custom templates. (keep in mind my word for template is slightly different than the internet standard)
