Math 440 Introduction to Fractal Geometry

The origins of fractal geometry can be traced back more than 100 years to the work of Cantor, Julia, and others. Dormant for many years, it began to bloom in the 1970s with the work of Benoit Mandelbrot and the arrival modern computers. In fact most of what we know about fractals and chaos would not be possible without computers. Mandelbrot was the first to use computers to explore fractals. Indeed, he is the one who invented the term fractal.
