Yes this is the fourth Derive assignment.  I still have to write up the third Derive assignment and will have it for you by the end of next week.  I just thought that you would like to be able to get a start on Derive HW#4.  It is due on the last day of classes.

Here is the last assignment.  I will have a better looking copy on paper with drawings for you next week.  My sculptor friend Larry has to build a glass bottle that is 10 feet tall.  The thickness of the glass is to be  2 inches.  How many cubic feet of glass are required?  To do the problem you will first have to determine the proportions of the 10 foot tall bottle.  Use a nice soda bottle as a model and increase its dimensions proportionately to get the dimensions of the 10 foot bottle.  Then you can imagine the bottle lieing along the positive x axis.  If you do that, then you can envision the bottle as being formed by rotating a curve matching the profile of the bottle around the x axis.  Of course blending the neck into the shoulder into the barrel of the bottle will require some equation solving.  But use Derive for this.  In fact use Derive for all calculations to make your work easier.  Include drawings etc to make a nice presentation.

Anyways, as I said above, I will print out a hard copy of this assignment with drawings and have it ready for you next week.  Choose a partner to work with if you like.  Projects like this often go more smoothly when done with a partment.  Just make sure that you mention your partner's name in your assignment.
