Our quiz on Friday will be to solve an inequality or two.  Also an inequality like the one we were doing at the end of class involving absolute values.

eg.  Suppose we want to solve

  3 - 4x   7

This means that the expression insidethe absolute value bars must be at least -7 but no more than 7.

That is we must have

-7  3 - 4x  7.

Subtracting 3 from each expression yields

-10  -4x  4.

Dividing by -4 gives the solution

-10/-4  x  4/-4

Which after simplifying the fractions gives

2  x  -1.

Notice that when  we divided by -4 we reduced the direction of the inequalities.
