M101--Intermediate Algebra

Renes Descartes has been described as one of the dominant thinkers of the 17th century. He and Fermat are responsible for the creation of analytic geometry. Fermat never published his work but Descartes did. The appendix, le geometrie, to his "Discourse" reads much like an algebra book of today. It led to the creation of calculus within a generation.
