Hipparchus ~150 BC is credited with being the founder of trigonometry.
Welcome to the M 115 Class page. The Greek mathematician Hipparchus is given credit for creating the first table of values for the triginometric functions of angles. The first applications of trigonometry were in astronomy, navigation and surveying. Trigonometry is also especially useful for describing periodic behavior.
