Arthur Cayley is one of the most productive mathematicians in history and is responsible for many of the early results in Linear Algebra.
Linear Algebra has its origins in finding solutions to systems of linear equations. The mechanics of matrices are associated with this aspect. Linear Algebra has proven itself to be much more, however. The study of systems of equations and the forms that their solutions can have has led to the study of vectors and vector spaces.

One person responsible for much of the early work in Linear Algebra is the 19th century English mathematician Arthur Cayley. Cayley is one of the most productive mathematicians in history having written over 900 books and articles.
